“Rees said the cruise lines' plan to invest more than $200 million in the popular destination area signaled good things for Galveston because the Port of Miami is unable to expand any further, and because the number of people living within eight hours of the island has increased from 30 to 40 million in recent years.”
“Additionally, Rees said that Disney Cruise Line, which began off-season sailings from Galveston in 2012, will sail year-round from the port starting in 2027. He added that Disney may bring in a much larger ship than the Magic as part of the switch.”
“Port spokeswoman Kathy Thomas told Chron Friday that the port would have a formal statement when an agreement is finalized.”
Very excited to see as the fleet expands what the possibility is for the ship and itineraries. Maybe we will have some new ports to explore.
Disney Cruise Line has current contract with the Port of Galveston to sail until 2029 but most likely when the official statement is announced we can see the agreement extended. The question is will we see a the construction of a homeport like Fort Lauderdale or Port Canaveral.
