Disney Cruise Line Wraps Up 2026 Alaska Season by Giving Back to Southeast Alaska Communities
Disney Cruise Line's Alaska sailings are about much more than the incredible scenery, wildlife and ports guests experience along the way.
As the 2026 Alaska season aboard the Disney Wonder came to a close, Disney Cruise Line spent its final days in Southeast Alaska continuing a tradition of supporting the communities that welcome the ship each summer.
From September 24–26, 2026, Disney Cruise Line Crew Members participated in community events in Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, connecting with students, military families and local organizations.
The three-day effort highlighted several different ways Disney Cruise Line is working with Southeast Alaska communities—from introducing students to maritime careers to recognizing Coast Guard families and supporting local programs throughout the year.
Supporting Coast Guard Families in Juneau
One of the highlights of the season-ending events took place in Juneau on September 25, when Disney Cruise Line partnered with the Armed Services YMCA – Alaska to celebrate Coast Guard members and their families.
The event brought Coast Guard families together for an afternoon of activities, crafts and time with Captain Mickey Mouse.
For families stationed in Alaska and serving the U.S. Arctic, events like this provide an opportunity to step away from the demands of military life and spend time together.
Disney Cruise Line also announced an investment in the U.S. Coast Guard Foundation to support its Coastie Campers summer enrichment program, helping provide additional opportunities for Coast Guard families in Alaska.
Disney's relationship with military families goes back to the company's earliest days. Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney both served during World War I, and honoring military service members, veterans and their families has remained part of the company's history for generations.
Introducing Alaska Students to Maritime Careers
The Disney Wonder may be a vacation destination for thousands of guests each summer, but it is also a floating workplace filled with hundreds of different careers.
Disney Cruise Line used its final week of the 2026 Alaska season to give local students a closer look at those opportunities.
On September 24 in Skagway, Disney Wonder Crew Members met with students from Junior Achievement of Alaska to discuss their careers and the different paths that can lead to working in the maritime industry.
Students were able to hear directly from Crew Members about their experiences and learn about the wide variety of jobs required to operate a modern cruise ship.
And the experience continued in Ketchikan.
On September 26, students from Junior Achievement of Alaska and members of the Magsayawan Filipino Dance Group boarded the Disney Wonder for a maritime careers discussion and ship tour.
The students were able to meet Crew Members and get a behind-the-scenes look at the people and professions that keep a cruise ship operating.
For students who see cruise ships arriving in Southeast Alaska every summer, getting the opportunity to step aboard and meet the people who work on them can provide a completely different perspective.
Instead of simply seeing the Disney Wonder arrive in their hometown, they could begin to picture themselves as part of the industry someday.
Disney Wonder's Connection to Southeast Alaska
These September events were not isolated activities.
Disney Cruise Line spent much of the 2026 season working with organizations throughout Southeast Alaska, continuing its efforts to support the communities that are an important part of its Alaska itineraries.
Among the organizations and programs supported during the year was the Southeast Alaska Food Bank, including efforts to provide weekend meals through Harborview Elementary School.
Disney Cruise Line also donated boot and glove warmers for Harborview classrooms, helping students stay comfortable during Alaska's colder months.
In Ketchikan, Disney supported the Ketchikan Pioneer Home with Disney books and participation in intergenerational programming.
And in Skagway, Disney Cruise Line once again welcomed participants from Skagway Summer Camp aboard the Disney Wonder—marking the fourth consecutive year of the program.
These are the types of efforts that can be easy to overlook when thinking about a Disney cruise, but they help demonstrate the relationship between the cruise line and the communities along its itineraries.
A Long-Term Relationship in Icy Strait Point
Disney Cruise Line's commitment to Southeast Alaska also extends beyond individual community events.
Earlier in 2026, Disney Cruise Line and Huna Totem Corporation announced a new 15-year agreement securing preferential access for Disney Cruise Line at Icy Strait Point through at least 2041.
Icy Strait Point has become an important part of Disney's Alaska itineraries, giving guests the opportunity to experience Alaska's culture, wildlife and spectacular natural surroundings.
At the same time, the continued relationship supports the local tourism economy, including jobs and opportunities for businesses in the region.
For Disney Cruise Line, maintaining these long-term relationships is an important part of returning to Alaska year after year.
More Than a Port of Call
For many Disney Cruise Line guests, an Alaska cruise is remembered for the glaciers, whales, mountains and incredible scenery.
But the communities themselves are an equally important part of the experience.
Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point aren't simply stops along an itinerary. They are home to families, students, businesses and organizations that interact with Disney Cruise Line throughout the summer.
The final days of the 2026 Disney Wonder Alaska season offered a look at some of the ways Disney Cruise Line is trying to make that relationship about more than tourism.
From celebrating Coast Guard families in Juneau to introducing students in Skagway and Ketchikan to maritime careers, the September events brought the 2026 Alaska season to a close with a focus on the people who make these communities so special.
And with Disney Cruise Line's long-term commitment to Alaska continuing, the relationship between the Disney Wonder and Southeast Alaska looks set to continue for many years to come.
