  • Board your motor coach for a 2.5-hour, narrated drive through Dublin. Pass The Customs House, located on the north bank of River Liffey. Designed by James Gandon, it was completed in 1791. Cross the river to Dublin’s south side and see the old Irish Houses of Parliament, now home to the Bank of Ireland and Trinity College. Founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I, Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest college. Located in its library is the world-famous Book of Kells, a hand-illuminated manuscript of the Gospels.

  • Continue past the Georgian squares at Merrion and Fitzwilliam. There you will find the famous Dublin Doors and make a short stop for photos. Pass the National Gallery of Ireland, Government Buildings and St. Stephen’s Green. In addition to its splendid public buildings, Dublin is particularly rich with examples of the domestic architecture of the 18th Century. Fine Georgian mansions, many of them with historic associations, lend sober beauty to the city’s wide streets and spacious squares.

  • See the Dublin Castle, City Hall, Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Founded in 1190, St. Patrick’s Cathedral is perhaps best known for its association with Jonathan Swift, who was Dean there from 1713 to 1745. The pulpit from which he preached can still be seen. An outside photo stop and optional restroom break will be made at the Cathedral.

  • Ride on past Guinness Storehouse, renowned home of the “black stuff” for which Dublin is famous. Next, view Phoenix Park, Europe’s largest enclosed public park which contains the homes of Ireland’s president and its American ambassador.

  • On the north side of Liffey, pass the Four Courts, which contains Ireland’s Supreme Court, High Court and the Dublin Circuit Court. Here, you will also experience the wide boulevard of O’Connell Street, and the General Post Office, scene of the 1916 Easter Rising.

  • Pass the International Financial Services Centre on the way back to the pier.

  • Meet your guide and embark on a 60-minute ride to the town of Trim. Situated on the Boyne River, Trim is in the heart of Ireland’s newly recognized Ancient East. In medieval times the town served as the Kingdom of Ireland’s capital city. It was also home to the largest and most significant religious settlements in the country. Trim came to prominence shortly after the Anglo-Norman invasion, when Hugh de Lacy established his stronghold here and erected the castle in 1173 AD. The hugely impressive 20-sided castle, where the Mel Gibson movie Braveheart was filmed, still dominates the town.

  • Learn about life in this medieval town through the eyes of your local guide, “Sir Talkalot” and other characters who “lived” in the town at the time. Pay a guided visit to the castle where you’ll be able to climb to the top of the keep and survey lands that were controlled by the de Lacy family and their descendants.
