  • On this adventure you will…

  • Board your boat for an approximately 40-minute ride across the bay of Fort-de-France to the beach of Anse Dufour, a typical fishermen's village. During the ride, complimentary non-alcoholic fruit punch will be served.

  • Enjoy approximately 40 minutes of swimming and snorkeling off the beach. Guests will swim from the boat to the beach–the water is about waist-high.

  • Take off for a short ride to your next snorkeling spot, Bat Cave.

  • Discover the famous Bat Cave for approximately 40 minutes, admiring the abundant marine life–such as parrot fish and angel fish–in crystalline waters. Note: Guests will be climbing into the water from the boat, and snorkeling nearby.

  • Ride back to the pier, enjoying complimentary rum punch (Guests 21 and older only) during the approximate 50-minute ride.

Bèlè Folkloric Dance and Rum Distillery (MQ09)

  • Take part in some fun folkloric dancing and taste local rum as you discover the history of a traditional distillery. 

  • On this adventure you will...

  • Board your transportation and ride approximately 60 minutes to La Maison du Bèlè (The Bèlè House).

  • At La Maison du Bèlè, next to Sainte Marie, learn about the history and traditions of this folkloric dance. Influenced by the African and European heritage of the island, the dance originated among slaves brought to work on sugarcane plantations. On Sundays, after church, the workers gathered to dance and celebrate their heritage. The lyrics of their songs celebrate values such as respect, solidarity and sharing. A dance demonstration will teach you the history of Bèlè, including its main characters and families. Then, it's time to join in the fun as you dance too, showing the musicians and dancers how much you’ve learned. Note: cameras are not allowed in the permanent Bèlè exposition.

  • Enjoy a taste of a typical dish, the Accras (salt cod fritters)—included in the price of the tour—accompanied by juice, coconut water or rum punch.

  • After approximately 70 minutes at La Maison du Bèlè, reboard your transportation for a short transfer to a rum distillery.

  • Visit the facilities and learn all about traditional rum-making on the island. You'll have an opportunity to taste the local production (guests 21 years of age and older) during your approximately 30-minute visit.

  • Reboard your transportation vehicle and travel back to the pier.

  • On this adventure you will…

  • Board your bus for an approximately 30-minute drive to Le Lamentin, one of the largest towns on the Island.

  • Drive along winding inland roads while viewing local sights. Arrive at the Belfort banana plantation to tour for about 2 hours. There, you'll visit banana fields via a small tram, and have the opportunity to learn about one of the most important products of Martinique. Discover all pieces of the process, including irrigation and harvesting, and visit the banana fields to observe the work of farmhands.

  • End the visit with a tasting of local products from the banana plantation and the famous fruit petals.

  • Reboard the bus for the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Botanical Garden & Footbridge (MQ11)

  • Most gardens are lovely when viewed at ground-level, but imagine the rich colors of the tropics seen from above! 

  • On this adventure you will...

  • Board your coach for a short transfer to the Church of Balata, a small size replica of Paris’ Sacré-Coeur Basilic. Located on the hillside of Fort-de-France, the area offers good views of the city and surrounding country.

  • After a 10-minute stop, continue to the Botanical Garden of Balata, a marvelous private garden opened to the public by Jean-Philippe Thoze. As a botanical and landscape gardener, Thoze has collected various plant species over the past 20 years. Walk under the trees for about 2 hours, discovering the harmonious placement of Thoze’s many plants and flowers. The reception hall is located in an authentic, entirely renovated Creole house.

  • Have a birds-eye view of the gardens from a treetop footbridge, admiring the various species of exotic plants. A playground area is also available for children to enjoy while parents browse the beautiful landscape.

  • Travel back to the pier.

Grand Anse Beach and Turtle Discovery (MQ12)

  • Board a motorized catamaran equipped with submarine vision (underwater observatory).

  • Enjoy a relaxing cruise across the sparkling waters of Flemish Bay for approximately one hour. As you cross the bay, learn about the history of Fort-de-France and how it has recently been classified as one of the Caribbean’s most important hotspots for biodiversity.

  • Sail along the coast close to Ramier Islet and the Bat Cave, where you may encounter a variety of wild life that call this remote area home.

  • Pass Salomon Cape before reaching the beautiful, white-sand beach of Grande Anse. Here, the tour will be split into 2 groups; the first group will head to the beach to relax and swim in the warm, crystalline waters while the second group remains on the catamaran to observe sea turtles through the onboard submarine vision.

  • Spend approximately 40 minutes either relaxing on the beach or observing sea turtles before switching places with the other group.

  • Enjoy rum punch, fruit juice and local cakes while listening to traditional island music on the approximately 45-minute cruise back to the pier.

  • Leave Fort-de-France, the administrative capital of Martinique, and travel for about 30 minutes by minibus to La Fontaine Didier (natural spring), the point of departure for your hike.

  • Walk toward the region of Absalon through the peaceful tropical forest. Listen to birds singing and see ferns, mahogany trees, balisier flowers and many other botanical species.

  • Appreciate the lush vegetation and small waterfalls during your approximately 110-minute hike, which will end in the region of Absalon.

  • Relax upon your arrival in Absalon, sipping a complimentary water or soft drink along a creek. Then, board your minibus, which will take you back to the pier.

  • Hear the history of a plantation house so impressive, Presidents George H. W. Bush and François Mitterand once met there!

  •  On this adventure you will...

  • Travel for approximately 30 minutes by motor coach to Clement Plantation House. The exceptionally well-maintained plantation house is where Presidents George H. W. Bush (United States) and François Mitterand (France) met in 1991. Then, visit a park that has the plantation’s inactive sugar-cane and rum distillery. Enjoy a taste of local rum (limited to Guests ages 21 and older).

  • During an approximately 25-minute ride, with a quick photo stop at a lookout point, arrive at a banana plantation field. After learning more about the delicious fruit and its growing methods, travel to the Church of Balata, a small-size replica of Sacré-Coeur Basilica in France. Located on the hillside of Fort-de-France, the area offers good views over the city and surrounding country.

  • Next, arrive at the Botanical Garden of Balata, a marvelous private garden opened to the public by Jean-Philippe Thoze, a botanical and landscape gardener who collected various plant species over the past 20 years. While you walk under the trees, discover the multitude of plants and flowers, noticing how harmoniously they have been placed. The reception hall is located in an authentic, renovated Creole house.

  • Receive a briefing, put on your life jacket and climb into your 2-person kayak for an adventure that will last about one hour and 20 minutes. Paddling from the islet, you will enter a natural mangrove and tidal zone. Take the opportunity to learn about the local fauna and flora in a peaceful setting. The calm waters in this environment are ideal for beginners too. Under the vegetation shade in the mangrove, your guides will explain how the area’s unique features benefit the entire island's ecosystem.

  • Return to the island and board your boat for the journey back to the pier. Enjoy a cool beverage and a quick stop at a swimming location—weather permitting—for approximately 30 minutes.

  • Continue your trip back to the pier.

  • Drive into banana and sugar cane plantations where your guide will provide information about the agriculture production in Martinique.

  • After approximately 30 minutes in the Jeep, arrive at a serene site highlighted by the Coeur Bouliki River. Rest at tables and benches and sip on juice, bottled water or rum punch at the river basin.

  • Hop back in your vehicle and travel for approximately 45 minutes back to the pier.

  • Board a bus and head west along the Caribbean coast of the island for about 45 minutes. Pass through small fishing villages before arriving at a unique botanical garden created in the ruins of one of the island’s oldest plantations.

  • Spend approximately 2 hours enjoying an enchanting setting that includes monkeys, jaguars, pumas, lorikeets, giant anteaters, raccoons and many other animals.

  • In the midst of the ruins, tour the renovated Habitation Anse Latouche house, which dates back to 1643 and was totally destroyed in 1902 by a volcanic eruption. Walk through an educational trail discovering some of the animals that call Martinique home.

  • During the visit, discover the main house and its charming colonial style. Observe the old equipment workshops, cassava, indigo and, of course, sugar and rum.

  • Reboard the transportation for an approximately 10-minute ride through a rainforest with a quick 10-minute stop at the Church of Balata, a smaller replica of the Basilica of Montmartre in Paris. Drive through Sainte Pierre, the most famous town in Martinique—before the volcano eruption it was the cultural and economic capital, called “The Paris of the Caribbean.”

  • Journey to the docks in Fort-de-France, where you’ll board the 75-foot catamaran Taiti for a scenic full-day cruise. While sailing the beautiful crystal waters, keep an eye out for dolphins.

  • Make a stop at the northern end of Martinique and disembark at the bottom of Mount Pelee, a semi-active volcano that last erupted in 1902. Discover this coastal city’s history and stories as you explore the many ruins that testify to a prestigious past marked with volcanic disaster. Then visit a typical island market and savor some of the local flavors.

  • Return to the boat and sail to Le Carbet Beach to explore its black sandy shores while lunch is being prepared.

  • Back aboard, enjoy a flavorful lunch featuring a feast of colors and flavors.

  • Arrive at Saint James Rum Distillery in Sainte-Marie (first city of the Atlantic) for about a 50-minute visit, during which you will get to taste the Agricole rum of Martinique. Visit the local museum and learn the history of the rum facility, one of the most famous distilleries on the island.

  • Next, travel for about 70 minutes to Morne-Rouge, with a quick stop at Lorrain Village for photo opportunities.

  • Enjoy a typical Creole lunch at a local restaurant (included in the price of your tour).

  • After lunch, your next stop is the town of Saint Pierre, the most famous place in Martinique. In 1902, volcano Mount Pelée erupted, destroying Saint Pierre and killing 30,000 people. A prisoner in an underground dungeon survived. Visit another museum for about 30 minutes to learn about this historic event. Note: cameras are not allowed inside of the museum.

  • Return via the gorgeous west coast of the island and enjoy the scenery of small fishing villages during the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
