  • Meet your guide and take a short drive to the historic Kilohana Plantation. Your guide will share Kilohana's rich history along the way and give you an orientation of the day's activities. This plantation began in 1864, and at its peak grew over 22,000 acres of sugarcane. Today, Kilohana is over 40,000 acres and has 105 acres for you to explore and enjoy.

  • Upon arrival, the tour group will be divided into 3 smaller groups, providing a better experience for hands-on activities.

  • Explore! Board the Kilohana train for a 45-minute conductor-narrated tour of the 105-acre plantation. See the expansive beauty and bounty of the Kilohana Plantation, including endangered Hawaiian hardwood trees and exotic tropical flowers and plants. And learn about the orchards and fields with over 50 varieties of fruits, including bananas, papayas, pineapple, sugarcane, mangos, star fruit, cherries, avocados, lychee, taro and more. Pass animal pastures with donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, endangered Hawaiian geese and wild pigs.

  • Create! At Clayworks, choose and glaze your very own textured tile featuring ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs of turtles, fish, surfers, canoes in the ocean or tropical garden scenes. See a pottery wheel demonstration and get a hands-on opportunity to spin some clay. Clayworks is in the original Kilohana Blacksmith Shop and has everything you will need, including professional artist instruction. All glazed creations will be fired in the kiln and delivered to the ship prior to departure.

  • Discover! Enjoy a guided tour of the fruit tree orchards and pick and taste all the fresh fruit in season right off the trees. Watch and learn how to peel open, drink and eat fresh coconuts, and cut open and eat fresh papaya, pineapple and, of course, sugarcane.

  • Take a ride on the Kaua'i Plantation Railway, touring the remains of an era when sugar was the island's main industry.

  • Board a van for a quick ride to the Kilohana Plantation, where you'll ride on the Kaua'i Plantation Railway. This narrow gauge railway will carry you comfortably for approximately 40 minutes through almost 100 acres of orchards and animal pastures. Climb aboard the “King Kalākaua-style” wooden cars at the Kilohana camp station where you'll begin an informative ride through working fields of sugar, pineapple, banana, papaya, coffee, tropical flowers and hardwood trees that enhance the story of agriculture on Kaua'i yesterday and today.

  • Conclude your journey and enjoy some free time to explore the unique shops and galleries as well as Hawai'i's very own Kōloa Rum Company gallery and destination tasting room.

  • Next, re-board your transportation for a quick ride to the Grove Farm, where you'll spend approximately 2 hours. Acquired in 1864 by George Wilcox, Grove Farm was one of the earliest Hawaiian sugar plantations on Kaua'i. George was the son of Protestant missionary teachers at Wai'oli Mission in Hanalei. The unchanged old homestead is now a living museum with the main house, farm, office, workers homes and private cottages beautifully maintained and nestled in tropical gardens, orchards and rolling lawns. You will experience the gracious old Wilcox home, the large rooms cooled by breezes from shaded verandas and elegantly furnished with oriental carpets. Magnificent native koa wood wainscoting, Ohia wood flooring and hand-crafted furniture of native woods adorn the home.
