Pump House

Castaway Cay Pump House – History & Overview

  • The Pump House on Castaway Cay is a small but important piece of the island’s infrastructure that dates back to its pre-Disney days. Before The Walt Disney Company transformed the island into a private cruise destination in the late 1990s, it was known as Gorda Cay and saw limited development attempts, including plans for industrial and supply use.

  • The Pump House was originally built to support basic utility operations—primarily water management—helping move and regulate water across the island. When Disney acquired the island in 1997, much of the existing infrastructure was either removed or reimagined, but the Pump House remained and was incorporated into the island’s updated systems.

  • Today, while most guests pass by without noticing it, the Pump House quietly continues to serve a functional role behind the scenes. It stands as one of the few subtle remnants of the island’s past, blending practical purpose with a bit of hidden history that predates Castaway Cay’s transformation into the tropical paradise guests know today.
