St. Maarten Set for Major Growth as Disney Cruise Line Expands Caribbean Itineraries

St. Maarten is preparing for a significant rise in Disney Cruise Line visits following the debut call of the Disney Destiny on July 1. The milestone visit signals the beginning of a stronger partnership between the cruise line and the island, with steady growth already mapped out over the next several years.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT), Disney Cruise Line has two scheduled visits to St. Maarten in 2026. That number is expected to increase dramatically to around 14 calls in 2027, with additional expansion anticipated in 2028 as the relationship continues to evolve.

Officials see this growth as a direct result of Disney Cruise Line’s ongoing fleet expansion, which includes several new ships currently in development. As more vessels enter service, destinations like St. Maarten are positioning themselves to become key stops on future Caribbean itineraries.

The increase in Disney cruise calls represents more than just additional ships arriving in port. Each visit brings thousands of guests to the island, creating opportunities for local businesses across the tourism sector. Taxi operators, excursion providers, restaurants, retail shops, and attractions all benefit from the influx of cruise passengers, helping to support jobs and strengthen the local economy.

Beyond the immediate economic impact, the expanded presence of Disney Cruise Line is expected to boost St. Maarten’s visibility among family travelers and repeat cruisers. This increased exposure reinforces the island’s reputation as a top Caribbean destination and helps attract future visitors both by sea and air.

Port St. Maarten has played a key role in securing this growth through continued collaboration with cruise partners and strategic route development. These efforts have helped position the island as an attractive destination for premium cruise brands and long-term partnerships.

As cruise traffic grows, local leaders are also focusing on maintaining a high-quality experience for both visitors and residents. Plans include ongoing improvements to transportation systems, traffic management, and overall infrastructure to ensure the island can support increased visitor numbers while preserving quality of life.

Looking ahead, St. Maarten aims to build a long-lasting relationship with Disney Cruise Line by balancing growth with sustainability. By continuing to invest in the visitor experience and working closely with industry partners, the island is positioning itself as a premier destination for Disney cruise itineraries well into the future.
